ego lite is a browser built so you and your AI agents can use the same browser at once without getting in each other's way. It's for developers who run browser automation with agent CLIs like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor and are tired of their agent hijacking the browser session or losing access to logged-in sessions. Instead of bridging to a separate automation-only browser, ego lite gives each agent its own isolated workspace (called a Space) inside the same browser instance you use daily.
The core problem it solves: tools like browser-use or Vercel's agent-browser are libraries that drive a browser, not a browser themselves. That means a second browser instance, flaky session data, and conflict over control. ego lite instead ships as a standalone app with a skill (ego-browser) that any agent can call to act on pages while your own tabs stay untouched.
ego-browser connector: a skill that bridges any agent CLI (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or custom agents) to the browser via snapshot, fill, click, wait, navigate, and capture tools.ego lite fits well if you're running agent-driven browser automation tasks, lead enrichment, competitor scraping, repetitive form filling, or multi-step web workflows, and want the agent to use your actual logged-in sessions instead of a bare automation browser. It's also a good fit if you want to keep working in the browser yourself while an agent runs tasks in the background, rather than handing full control over.
It's not a fit if you need Windows or Linux support today (macOS is the only shipped platform; Windows is in closed beta and Linux is on the roadmap). It's also not the right tool if you want a browser with its own built-in agent (like ChatGPT Atlas or Perplexity Comet) rather than one designed to be driven by external agent CLIs. And if your workflow doesn't involve any agent CLI at all, a standard browser automation library might be simpler to integrate.
ego lite runs on macOS. Pick one of three setup paths.
Download the macOS app directly:
Download the .dmg for Apple Silicon or Intel from the project's release links, open it, and install. This also adds the ego-browser skill to every agent's skills directory on your machine.
Add the skill via npx:
npx skills add citrolabs/ego-lite
The first time your agent runs a browser task, it walks you through installing the ego lite app itself.
Let your agent install it for you:
Paste this into your agent:
Set up ego lite for me: https://github.com/citrolabs/ego-lite
Read `skills/ego-browser/references/install.md` and follow the steps to install ego lite.
On first launch, ego lite asks whether to migrate your Chrome data. Accepting carries over your logins, cookies, extensions, and bookmarks.
To try your first task, type /ego-browser in your agent CLI followed by a space and a plain-language instruction, for example:
ego-browser follow @ego_agent on x.com for me
The agent uses the ego-browser skill to open the page in its own Space, read a Snapshot, act on the page, and report back, while your own tabs remain untouched.
